The Old Post Office
Your perfect holiday package.
Located within Somerset's beautiful rolling hills and patchwork fields is Puckington, a gorgeous countryside village and home to the Old Post Office, a chocolate box cottage that is guaranteed to give its guests a wonderful holiday to remember.
The stunning Grade Two listed thatched cottage can comfortably accommodate up to six in three bedrooms, and is both dog and child friendly, making it ideal, not only for couples looking for a weekend away from the hustle and bustle of the towns and cities, but also for families seeking a relaxing holiday in stunning countryside.
The Old Post Office has been beautifully decorated throughout and is equipped to a very high standard. The owners have created a delightful balance between old and new with many of the cottage's original period touches retained, and now effortlessly united with more modern and comfortable features and facilities.
There are three bedrooms at the cottage, two doubles and a twin, which share a stunning family bathroom complete with a roll top bath and a separate shower. There is also a charming well-equipped kitchen, an elegant dining room and a gorgeous lounge with an open fire. To either side of the cottage is a garden, which is in addition to a paved courtyard terrace perfect for alfresco dining.
The pretty village of Puckington lies just 10 miles from both Taunton and Yeovil, and despite its rural setting it is easily accessed from both the A303 and the M5. A little nearer to the village is Ilminster with its medieval streets and historic church. This traditional market town is home to a good range of shops, banks and restaurants, as well as a lovely delicatessen and award-winning butchers.
Only a mile from the cottage is the village of Barrington, which can easily be reached on foot using either the country lane or the local footpaths. Barrington has a very good child and pet friendly pub, The Barrington Boar, in addition to the National Trust property Barrington Court, which was recently used in the BBC drama Wolf Hall.
The area surrounding Puckington is perfect for exploring on foot, by bike, or from the comfort of your car. There are several footpaths in the village for enjoying a leisurely stroll with family, friends or dogs, and Somerset itself is great for cyclists, with the nearest recognised route in Barrington. Horse riding and other outdoor activities can also be discovered within a short drive of the Old Post Office.
For guests looking to enjoy a day at the beach, Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast are only a 40 minute car ride away and offer a wonderful day out for not only sunbathing and water sports, but also for fossil hunting and fishing. Burnham-on-Sea, on the north Somerset coast, is also within easy driving distance and still offers traditional donkey rides in the summer months.
There are plenty of attractions to suit all tastes within an hour's drive of the Old Post Office, making it a great central location for staying in the beautiful Somerset countryside. Visit Cheddar Gorge and discover its breathtaking caves, explore the abundance of National Trust run properties that have gorgeous gardens and plenty of history, or enjoy a day's shopping at Clarks Village in Street.
If you're looking for something a little more sports orientated, the racecourse at Taunton provides an excellent setting for a day at the races, or alternatively, relax in the stands at the Somerset County Cricket Ground, which is also located in the town.
